Monterey aquarium how long does it take

The tank is full of anchovies, and this is one of the exhibits where you can witness the creatures very closely. It looks like liquid flowing in the tank with different colors ranging from orange to dark red depending on its surroundings. As a former aquarist for an East Coast aquarium, I know an excellent aquarium when I see one. The exhibits are all well done and very well cared for. A must during your Monterey visit. The Giant Pacific Octopus was the coolest thing ever! We stood mesmerized. Hey, only a few facilities in the world have them, and it was worth the price of admission just to see them up close.

We also adored the otters! We had to drag my year-old daughter away from the Otter area, or she would have stayed there all night. The Aquarium is a must for everyone! First class! If you cannot plan a daytime visit, or if you want to experience the Aquarium at night, the Monterey Bay Aquarium Sleepover may be just the opportunity for you.

As the name suggests, visitors get to spend the night at the Aquarium, indulging in fun activities, bedtime snacks, and a bed under the blanket of sea stars. The following day, you wake up to an excellent breakfast and can start exploring the beautiful marine creatures of the Aquarium yet again. It was tough to beat the otters, but this was my favorite part of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Jellies, puffins and other cool exhibits can be seen in this area as well.

Kelp Forest — This foot tall aquarium is another exhibit with lots of visual impact. Look for leopard sharks, octopus and other fascinating creatures in this area. Splash Zone — You could spend a lot of time here if you have young children. This exhibit has play areas and colorful, interactive exhibits. Even without young children, you'll want to walk through to see the penguins, anemone, clownfish and more.

Rocky Shore — Love a touch pond? There are lots of hands-on opportunities with sea stars, hermit crabs and more here. Don't miss the Wave Crash where you can witness the power of gallons water crashing against the window every 30 seconds. It's a fun photo op. I recommend the Monterey Bay Aquarium for all ages. It's one of the biggest and best aquariums in the world.

My kids are ages 12 and 15, and our entire family was wowed by the large and unusual marine exhibits. There are some exhibits that are better with kids, namely the Splash Zone on the second floor. Families with young children could spend a lot of time in the play areas here. My kids have grown out of most play zones, so a quick walk through was enough for them. We were ready to eat by 11 AM when crowds in the cafeteria-style cafe were light. I claimed a table with a good view of Monterey Bay while my husband and kids got their food.

Lines grew and bayside tables filled up in that minutes. I went for my food next and picked my entree based on the shortest wait. By noon, lines for the grill were quite long and good tables were hard to get.

Eating in the cafe added to our experience at Monterey Bay Aquarium. The view is lovely and we spotted wild otters and sea lions in the bay during our meal. My family has diverse tastes and everyone found something they liked, including burgers, pizza, vegetarian, sustainable seafood and salads. Kids meals are available.
